Job Duties

The Assistant/Associate Professor position will teach graduate courses in a fully online format and will serve in additional, value-added capacities to the department through recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts. The successful candidate will conduct research, teach, and advise students in our ALA-accredited master’s degree program. Program, department, college, university, and professional service is also expected.

Minimum Education/Experience

A doctoral degree in library, information sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates must be able to teach two or more of the core courses (foundations, reference, technology, administration & management, research literacy, organization of information, collection development).  Candidates are also expected to have a record or ability to build a record of research and scholarship, and experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats. Candidates with Ph.D. or Ed.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor upon initial appointment. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to the first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

In addition to a doctoral degree, it is preferred that candidates also have a master’s degree accredited by the American Library Association.  Candidate’s research and teaching interests may complement any of the program’s areas of expertise.  Experience teaching courses at the graduate level; experience teaching online courses; specialized knowledge of library management and budgeting, public librarianship, school librarianship, organization of information, or technologies for library services is especially welcome and preferred.
