Description

The Cracchiolo Law Library at the University of Arizona College of Law seeks a team-oriented individual to join our Access Services Circulation department. The Law Library values education, diversity, and outreach. The Library Services Associate II performs a variety of library services in the Circulation Department, including assisting users with library requests, opening and/or closing the library, and making use of one or more automated systems. We seek a candidate who will thrive working in a team-oriented environment in which cross-training and collaborative working relationships across all Law Library departments and the College of Law are important.

The Library Services Associate II works under the general supervision of the Circulation Manager in the Access Services department. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in relevant professional development opportunities with the potential of position mobility.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

  • Uses automated systems to create, input, and update bibliographic records, manage Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests or other data. Search, interpret, and verify bibliographic records or other data on automated systems. Transfer and receive information electronically from one system to another. Review and correct online error reports.
  • Assist library users in the process of locating library materials and give directional information. Interpret library user questions, provide basic answers, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and reserve desk service. Review department policy and procedures with the library user to ensure that established guidelines are followed. Review and sort overdue notices. Process rush requests for library materials upon demand. Handle problems with patron requests and may refer difficult problems to a higher level.
  • Assist with course reserves requests and negotiate related problems including copyright, referring complex problems to a higher level. Create and maintain course reserves records.
  • Verify interlibrary loan requests and locate holding libraries through online sources. Maintain interlibrary loan transactions records.
  • Review and coordinate with the Circulation Manager on cataloging records as needed.
  • Provide clerical support which may include researching and selecting supply orders for unit and department, and reporting and resolving equipment problems.
  • Prepare library materials for shipment and receive returned materials, ensuring accuracy.
  • Maintain loose-leaf services.
  • Organize library materials for shelving. Review damaged library materials and determine basic repairs or replacement and may refer to a higher level. Participate in shifts of library materials and ensure quality control.
  • Monitor and maintain the library room reservation system. Enforce policies for study room, carrel, and table reservations.
  • Assist in the search process for all missing library items. Locate uncatalogued material for library users.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed to open and/or close the building as needed.
  • Resolve library user conflicts and emergencies, referring them to a higher level, including campus police, or other appropriate services as needed.
  • Interpret and enforce library and university policy and procedures. Interact with library users and refer to a higher level when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Library of Congress classification, subject headings, and authority practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity and competency abilities.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Two years of college education AND one-year related library experiences, OR
  • Three years related library experience, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Foreign language skill/Spanish as second language.
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new technologies, such as Microsoft Office certifications, Content Management System (CMS), digital media, HTML, or data related technologies.
