Johanna R. Bradley

Professor Emerita, School of Information

Johanna  Bradley, called Jana by everyone except the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the airlines, is a retired professor at the School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS) at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Her forty-year plus career has encompassed books from many perspectives: student of literature, author, editor, writing instructor, librarian, professor, historian of the book, and scholar of contemporary publishing. She worked in numerous types of libraries before going back to school for her doctorate. She has held faculty and director positions at several library schools. In 2004, she became the director of SIRLS, and in 2009, after her five year stint as director, returned to the faculty to teach and do research. Currently, her teaching interests are the past, present, and future of the book, and the foundations of the information professions. She directs a research team on non-traditional publishing. Her recent research centers on print and electronic publishing and on changes in the book publishing industry. Jana is currently not supervising students.
