Library Journal released its 2023 Placements and Salaries survey on October 16, 2023, and the University of Arizona School of Information, with its internationally recognized, American Library Association-accredited Master of Arts in Library and Information Science, was a contributor.

The survey, now in its third year, “demonstrated a hard-won stability,” says Library Journal, even though it is “lacking 2022’s dramatic job market gains.” While 2022 saw starting librarian salaries jump by 7.9 percent, and the numbers of employed graduates with full-time positions return to the 2019 highs of 86%, starting salaries rose only slightly in 2023, though unemployment dropped from 7% to 5%.

“But while not cause for bold-type headlines, 2023 survey results speak to a level of stability,” concludes Library Journal. “For recent graduates, these numbers represent a welcome development in still-uncertain times.”
