Bio:

Sara A. Guzman ’15 is an alumna of the Masters of Information in Library & Information Science program and a Knowledge River Scholar.  She has experience as an archivist and cataloger working for the Western Archaeological & Conservation Center, Montana Historical Society, Heard Museum, the State of Arizona, and is currently the Museum Archivist for Himdag Ki: Cultural Center & Museum with the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Sara is a Diné-Xicana, Knowledge River Institute Scholar (Cohort 12), dedicated to the advocacy of Indigenous information sovereignty. She has successfully integrated cultural competency in archival practice through the implementation of the philosophical principles of decolonization methodology. Her professional objective is to foster Nation building through community curation and cultural preservation through the frame work of the Living Archive. It is Sara's professional goal to bridge the gap between institutional policy and Indigenous Lifeways (Himdag). As an Indigenous information professional, Sara is concerned with providing methods to resolve situations where information domains of individuals and institutions collide with the rights of Tribal Nations. As an Archivist Sara believes the preservation of Indigenous histories and Lifeways is key to maintaining cultural identity and thus maintaining tribal autonomy
