Health Sciences Liaison Librarian

The George A. Smathers Libraries seek a service-oriented and collaborative liaison librarian at the Health Science Center Library in Gainesville. The Health Sciences Liaison Librarian provides in-depth information consultations and reference assistance, instruction, outreach, and collection management for assigned departments in the College of Medicine and College of Public Health and Health Professions. This 12-month, tenure-track faculty position serves as a member of the Biomedical and Health Information
Services team and the broader Research and Health Sciences faculty and provides services in a variety of modes (in person, phone, email, online synchronous).

The position is responsible for special projects as assigned, such as service evaluation, development of web-based resources, and collection reviews. Liaison Librarian will contribute to discussions, provide input, and serve on various committees and
teams.
The Health Sciences Liaison Librarian will pursue professional development opportunities, including
research, publication, and professional service activities to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and
promotion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides liaison librarian services to the students, faculty, and staff of assigned departments and programs in the College of Medicine (COM) and College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and the Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology.
  • Liaison services include instruction, consultation, collection development, and other client-centered services as appropriate
  • Collaborates in both in person and virtual instruction programs; including developing and delivering instructional sessions
  • Provides on-call, by appointment, and e-mail reference services to students, faculty, and staff of the UF Health Science Center
  • Collaborates with COM and PHHP faculty on information-related projects, including complex evidence syntheses and curriculum development
  • Actively creates a welcoming environment for all
  • Leads the development, selection, and evaluation of web-based resources for subject guides
  • Engages in planning, policy formation, and departmental decisions related to health sciences services, collections, and new technologies
  • Selects and evaluates subject-based materials related to liaison assignment and works with faculty in selecting materials to support their academic and research programs
  • Performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited (or foreign equivalent) program, or other relevant advanced degree in subject specialty
  • Appointment at the Associate University Librarian rank requires eight years of relevant experience
  • Strong commitment to user-focused service
  • Demonstrated interest in providing information services to, and collaborating with, health sciences students, educators, researchers, and clinicians
  • Strong commitment to developing and delivering innovative and collaborative instruction
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication

 

  •  Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, and the general public
  • Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment
  • Strong potential to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion outlined in the departmental by-laws

Preferred:

  •  Experience using health-related literature databases such as PubMed
  • Experience working in a health sciences library or academic library
  • Experience in developing and delivering instruction
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in a health or life sciences discipline
