Information Literacy Instruction Internship (Broome Library, CSU Channel Islands)

Broome Library is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Information Literacy Instruction Intern to join the Instruction, Engagement, and Assessment (IEA) team. This position will be under the supervision of the Instruction and Assessment Librarian and the Unit Head of IEA. The intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience combining learning theory, instructional design principles, and multimedia development skills to create accessible and engaging digital learning objects, instructional videos, and Canvas modules targeted at self-directed student learning and assessment. This internship will provide hands-on training and mentorship from experienced library professionals and exposure to a diverse range of library users. Your contributions will culminate in the development and implementation of instruction materials that will directly impact library users' learning experiences.

Applicant Requirements:
Current or recently graduated MLIS students

Our software licensing requires all interns to be physically located in the United States.

Spring 2024 Deadline: 11/5/2023
Summer 2024 Deadline: 3/31/2024
Fall 2024 Deadline: 6/9/2024

Site Supervisor: Breeann Austin (Information Literacy and Assessment Librarian)
Location: virtual/online internship, most work completed asynchronously but weekly synchronous meetings are required.
Time Commitment: 10 hours per week (if semester system), some flexibility allowed
Education Level: MLIS graduate student
Paid or Unpaid: Unpaid

Develop a proficiency in instructional design targeted at undergraduate students.
Build a digital learning object portfolio, demonstrating proficiency in Camtasia, Canvas, and/or Springshare software.
Learn and incorporate Universal Design and DEIA initiatives into asynchronous teaching tools.

Required Skills:
Access to high-speed internet, which will allow the intern to screen record videos and participate in synchronous online zoom meetings with video turned on.
Familiarity with library resources, databases, and research methodologies.
Strong interest in library instruction, information literacy, and educational programming.

Preferred background and skills:
Currently pursuing a degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field.
Knowledge of current instructional pedagogies, ACRL Frameworks, and Universal Design.
Dedication to accessibility and inclusive practices in instruction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of library users.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Informal or formal teaching experience.
Experience teaching or learning in an asynchronous online environment.
Experience creating online video tutorials (scriptwriting, presenting, editing…).
