Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) is seeking a motivated Software Developer Intern with a focus on Gen AI and proficiency in Python to support our efforts in improving child welfare services through innovative technology solutions. As a Software Developer Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of AI-powered applications and tools that assist our colleagues in making data-driven decisions and improving outcomes for children and families.

This is a 10 weeks internship position with the Arizona Department of Child Safety. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work closely with DCS professionals and gain valuable experience in applying AI technology to address real-world challenges in child welfare.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with DCS staff and stakeholders to understand the various use cases for development.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of AI-powered software solutions aimed at enhancing child welfare services.
  • Work closely with the DCS IT team to integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and applications.
  • Participate in testing, debugging, and optimizing software applications to ensure performance and accuracy.
  • Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and best practices in the field of child welfare and propose innovative solutions to address identified needs.
  • Document development processes, code, and project outcomes for knowledge sharing and future reference.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related program.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and techniques, with a focus on applications in predictive modeling, NLP, or computer vision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex datasets.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Passion for leveraging technology to improve social services and make a positive impact on the lives of children and families
