This position is part of our Preservation Studio. The student will gain hands-on experience working with physical collection materials, ranging from rare books and artist books to archival materials, 3D objects, photographs, to circulating book collections. They will work on assessing condition and damage, dry cleaning, making custom enclosures, binding music scores, preparing materials for exhibition and (de)installation, surveying parts of our collections, and assisting in environmental monitoring.
No previous knowledge of conservation or preservation is needed, but we do hope to find someone with good manual skills and an interest in museum, archive, library, and/or preservation and conservation work.
